Saree and Significance of Colors

Sari is one of the most gorgeous and elegant Indian attire. Colors plays very important role and every color has its own significance. The beautiful color signifies beliefs in our culture and religion. For example Red is one of the most favorite colors in Indian weddings. Red and shades of red are always preferred in Indian weddings and other important functions. Lehenga, Sari and Salwar suits are always preferred colors for the “D” day.

Yellow color is also very popular in many Indian regions. It is linked with prosperity. It is also considered as a sign of a good harvest of wheat and mustard. In many Indian wedding there is a haldi ceremony. In this function the girl or boy in question has to wear yellow clothes. In Maharashtra bride wears a yellow silk sari on performing pooja. Also in many regions yellow sari is gifted to the bride for her wedding functions and special pooja ceremony.

White color symbolizes purity and faith. In many important functions white color garments are worn. For example in many regions like Guajarati and Assam bride wears a white sari for her Bridal function. The beautiful white sari is embellished with a handmade zari border. A Bengali bride wears white sari with red or maroon border sari for their pooja ceremony.

Kanjeevaram saris are also one of the most popular sari in Indian festivals and functions. It’s of various patterns and styles. Different culture, history, animals, flowers, temple etc are depicted on them to make them look more rich and royal. It can be embedded with various works like zari, thread, moti, stones, sequin etc.

Sari is always a very graceful garment with different styles and patterns. Saris draping style and its colors symbolize various cultures, religion, regions and tradition.
