The type of photo album that requires an additional product to place the pictures are the simple traditional style photo albums with plain sheets of paper inside, often there are glassine or tissue sheets in between each page. These kind of albums are often called "traditional style" or "classic style" photo albums.
These photo albums are gaining huge popularity simply because of the classy look they provide and the flexibility they offer. There are now a large number of different photo sizes out there and people need to be able to mount a variety of different media sizes into their albums with out the constraints of a slip in style photo album.
There are many mounting products available, first of all you have:
These are really a nice way of doing it and really do add to the look of the presentation. They are available in clear plastics but I think the preferable ones are made of paper as the color and can be matched with the page color as they provide a more cohesive look. The only real issue with mounting corners is that they take the most amount of time to place and can really add to the total time investment in putting your picture into or album or wedding album.
There are a variety of these available; you have spray mounts, stick style glues and applicators. My favorite is a product by HermaFix that comes with an applicator gun and can accept refills. It provides an incredibly close stick to the pages with absolutely no mess at all. This product is available in two types: temporary and permanent. The permanent is generally recommended particularly if you have your pictures stored on digital and are not worried about the prospect of having to pull them all out again. It also goes quite a bit further. The temporary however can be an incredibly useful adhesive especially if you are placing old or antique photos that you want to take special care of. This incredible adhesive can rub off the paper pages and the photo at any time without leaving a trace!
