Understated and simplicity characterize any Madhwa matrimony. The Madhwa community is one of the sub-groups of Kannada Brahmin. Most of the community members are live in the state of Karnataka, though some are also working out of the country. The community is strongly rooted in their customs and traditions and this is truly reflected in the Madhwa Matrimony.

About the Madhwa Community:

Brahmin in India are divided into several groups and small communities. The Madhwa community is one such Brahmin sub-group. Majority of the community members are found in the state of Karnataka. The Madhwa Matrimony Rituals:

Like any other wedding ceremonies, the Madhwa matrimony also conducts rituals that spans over a period of several days. The community members are strongly rooted in tradition and try to follow their traditional rituals and customs. The Madhwa matrimony, like other Brahmin weddings is a simple affair with more importance given on rituals. All the family members are engaged in preparations of the rituals. The Madhwa community rituals are divided into pre-wedding, wedding day and post-wedding ones. The wedding takes place in the daytime in the presence of family and friends. A beautiful mandap is set up, covered with fresh flowers. Amidst the chants of Vedic mantras, the priest performs the rituals and ties the Madhwa groom and the bride into holy matrimony. With the wearing of the mangalsutra, the holy black thread, the wedding is solemnized.

Earlier the search for the bride and the groom was done by the priests and the elders of the family. Alliances were usually formed among known families and usually in the same places. The matrimonial search was also limited to finding a homely Madhwa bride. But, with time, the conservative thinking of the Madhwa community members has changed. They are now forming alliances using other forms of communication like the internet.
